About

Eric Reed

I am not a narrator. OK, by definition, that’s precisely what I am. But the reality is, I’m a storyteller. I’m not just going to robotically read the words on your pages. I’m going to tell the story of your ideas, your life, or your characters lives in an engaging, personal way. I want your listeners to feel like I’m relaying your story to them across the table at a coffee shop, or that they’re a fly on the wall overhearing the conversations your characters are having. I will bring life and dimension to the words you carefully chose, and will create an audiobook you will be proud of.

Like many voice actors, I really don’t know what it takes to create a book. But it does seem daunting… Like many authors, you may not understand what it takes to create an audio book. Trust me, it’s also daunting! It takes a narrator/producer about eight hours to produce a single hour of finished audio. And that doesn’t count the initial read through, notes, and the development of characters/voices. For narrating, editing, proofing, and mastering your audio book to meet the standards of your specific sales platform, I charge a flat $200-300 per finished hour of audio, depending on the scope of the project. No selling of rights, no splitting of royalties. Simple, clean, and efficient. You will walk away with a high quality, listener ready audiobook, fully optimized for your needs.

Testimonials

I got a large number of auditions for my first two books on finance and frugal living, and I had put out a very thorough description of what I was looking for. I had many skilled narrators to review, all with unique takes on the material, but Eric’s was a clear standout from the beginning. He is clearly attuned to both the words on the page and the intentions of the author because his read-through nailed everything that I was looking for. There are a lot of great actors in the world, but it takes a special kind of gift to put an entire performance into an invisible voice, and Eric has that gift to spare. We had great discussions on specific areas that he thought could be improved on, and his results were always an improvement over what I had imagined. He can be just as dramatic as he can be funny. He has great comedic timing, which is exactly what I looking for to engage audiences while narrating financial books, which can be a lot of dry information if not handled right. The praise for his narration from reviewers has been consistent, and I wholeheartedly agree with their assessment. He was an absolute pleasure to work with, and I would cast him again in a heartbeat.

Eric Reed is a gifted and talented narrator. He has the unique ability to encapsulate the essence of a character through manipulating the tone, timber, velocity, and accent of his voice so that they come to life in the audiobooks he produces. All I had to do was give Eric a few quick notes and background info about my book and he put together an entirely coherent accent and vocal mannerism for each character that added a depth to the storyline that could simply not be found in the written word. I will forever hear the voices of the characters in my book in Eric’s voice, with their distinct accents.

“In the opening credits of the audiobook he produced for me, Eric credits himself as not just a narrator, but a performer. After listening to the finished product, I have to agree. Over the course of my six hour book, he took some real risks and brought my story to life. From the serious and understated to the absurd and ridiculous, Eric’s performance just served my story very well. On top of that, communication was a breeze during the entire project. I would definitely recommend his services, and I’m really looking forward to working with him again on my next project.”

“Of the roughly dozen or so queries I received the first few days after putting my novel — The Fold — up for audition on ACX, Eric Reed was a clear finalist.  His narration was warm, easy to listen to for extended periods, and his voice characterizations were fitting and unique.  His audition script (professionally done in regard to equipment and recording space) had no errors, nothing I needed to coach him on and, despite having no experience narrating a horror novel, I had an immediate intuition our working relationship would be a good one.

This proved to be the case.  Eric updated me on his progress throughout and asked insightful questions along the way, so I always felt my book (a child I had created out of hard work and thin air) was in good hands… a consummate perfectionist who treated the material as if he’d assumed a joint-custody or responsibility.  An involvement in its future and well-being.  Along the way he gave me good advice regarding the ways an audiobook is presented differently from its print-based counterpart.  I’m much indebted to him for his suggestions and think they’ve made a valuable difference in the finished product.

As I hoped, once he sent the recordings for my approval, there was astonishingly little to correct, the majority of the errors being place names (whose pronunciation differed from their spelling) or regional anomalies (always fascinating).  Quickly corrected, the revisions were indistinguishable from the surrounding recordings.  As I said — a consummate perfectionist.  But the best thing I can say about Eric’s performance is the way time and place fell away while I was listening to them.  I was transported to the places I had written about.

With a smile on my face.

Thanks so much, Eric.
